After two rough days, our crew was very happy to spend the day cleaning and washing the boat. We picked up a rental car.   Capt Steve discovered a problem with Nissan motor for the dinghy.  After a few phone calls, the part was found and the problem solved.  A good thing — Corey was itching to go fishing!

The Marathon Marina has made some improvements since our last visit including a/c for restrooms, new washers and dryers and new tiki hut and new furniture.  We enjoyed it every afternoon.

The diving forecast for the week wasn’t looking good.  Winds 15-20 kts with seas 5-7 ft.  Not my kind of diving weather.  Sure you can dive off the boat and get underwater to avoid the rough water; it’s getting out of the water into boat that is the challenge.
Randy and Corey spent the day fishing in the backwaters of Little Sister Creek.  The rest of us were happy for a day of reading and catching up.

Still too windy for diving.  We decided to spend the day in Key West.  Herb and Maryann had gone to Key West earlier so we met up with them for lunch.   We enjoyed a great day even if we couldn’t go diving.

Still too windy for diving.  We  were determined to get into the water no matter what so we went snorkeling at Bahia Honda State Park.  It’s a nice place with some good snorkeling.

Randy’s big catch!

After a day of fun snorkeling, we joined Herb and Maryanne for dinner at Burdines

We were expecting bad weather because of Tropical Storm Bonnie.  But it missed us entirely and made landfall between the upper Keys and Homestead.  We didn’t even get any rain.
Our friends Ron and Mary were on a mooring ball in Boot Key so we took a dinghy ride to visit them.
Cody loves to ride in the dinghy

Still too windy to dive.  This is our 6th summer trip to the Keys to go diving and it’s the first time we’ve been blown out for a solid week.  Even in 2004 when we were here while Hurricane Charley passed us, we still had wonderful diving weather the prior week.  We can’t complain though as we are still having a great time, and our friends Nick and Holly arrived today to dive with us next week.
Kim, Randy and Corey went snorkeling near Little Sister Creek and ran into Ron out on his dinghy.
In honor of Nick and Holly’s arrival, we had dinner at the Keys Fishery, one of our favorites.
